I'm always designing rooms, both real and imaginary. Sometimes, I'll spot a rug and mentally build a room around it.

I love rugs. Maybe a little too much. You might even say Im obsessed with rugs. I can't tell you when it all started. If you had asked me when I was younger if I thought I would ever have a rug problem, I would have had said, "No way!", but it's real now. I don't think it's uncommon for a designer to develop an obsession with a specific thing. We're constantly exposed to beautiful things. For some it might be light fixtures and another it could be window treatments, but for me, it's rugs.I literally can envision a space, paint the walls, place furniture, add lighting and art, all because of a rug. I fantasize about the client who might want this rug and the space I built around it. I know they're out there, they just haven't found me yet. Sometime's I'll buy the rug and hold it, just waiting and hoping for the right client to come along.You might be asking yourself, how someone can love rugs so much. A lot of people don't understand. They think only about the obvious benefit of how great they feel under bare feet, but rugs have lots of hidden talents and their usefulness is many fold. A rug can inject color, a lot or a little into a space, add texture and define rooms. Consider an open floor plan with only perimeter walls. A large rug placed in a one area will anchor the sofa and chairs and just a few feet away another rug can anchor the dining table and chairs visually defining the two "rooms" even without walls. These are just a few examples of the hidden charms of rugs. Keep an open mind when your out and about and spot a rug. Look a little closer and maybe you too will begin to feel the love of rugs.Lots of love,ValerieP.S.
